Regular Funds
General Fund: This fund receives contributions for general support of Temple operations.
Rabbi Lader’s Discretionary Fund: This fund is administered by the Rabbi for charitable purposes, youth group scholarships, and emergency assistance.
Religious School Fund: This fund provides general support for the Beth Israel – the West Temple Relgious School.
The Alan B. Lettofsky Fund for the Center for Jewish Life: This fund is for the development and implementation of plans for a future home for Beth Israel-The West Temple.
21st Century Renovation & Capital Campaign Fund: This fund is to be used solely for the repair and refurbishment of Beth Israel’s building – where ever that building is located.
The Lou & Evy Rosenblum Fund for Education & Social Justice
Harold & Ruth Friedman Camp Fund: Supports summer Jewish Youth experiences.
Israel Scholarship Fund: For scholarships to aid study and travel in Israel.
Lenore Singer Music Fund: This Fund supports expenses related to bringing outside musical groups to Beth Israel, and to support liturgical music and music education.
Library Fund: This fund is to support the needs of the library, including the purchase of materials such as books and audio-visual materials.
Ralph B. and Curtis A. Miller Art Fund: Established in 1987 with a gift of $400 from Dr. Bernice Miller, this fund is for fine arts to beautify the Temple and its surroundings.
Rabbi Enid C. Lader Music Fund
Reserve Fund, Inc.: This fund was established from a surplus of funds raised for retirement of the Temple’s mortgage in the 1970s. The fund may be used by the Board of Trustees to support cash flow as needed, but must subsequently be restored.
Ritual Fund: This fund was established from the sale of a Torah (for $7,500) and the proceeds were used to redo the Bimah. The fund is now used to support the work of the Ritual Committee.
Sylvia & Herb Wise Fund for the Performing Arts: This fund supports performing arts activities at Beth Israel – The West Temple.
Tree of Life Fund: This fund is supported by the sale of leaves on the Temple’s Tree of Life (currently for $500 each) and by direct gifts. It provides dollars for capital expenses to the synagogue, the religious school, and the library, which help build Beth Israel as a “congregation of learners.” It is not used for general expenses.
Endowment Funds
Endowment Fund: Established in 1986 with a gift of $10,000 from Rachel A. and Hyman S. Lieberman, the interest from this fund may be used at the discretion of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.
E. David Memorial Fund: Established in November 1989 with a gift of $1,500 from Mrs. Eugene David, the interest from this fund is to be used for the benefit of the Temple Youth Group.
Lieberman Youth Book Fund: Established in 1985 with a gift of $5,000 from Dr. H. Lieberman, a sum equal to 5% of the principal shall, at the beginning of each fiscal year, be transferred to the Library Fund to be used to purchase books and/or audio-visual materials for the children’s or young adult’s collections of the West Temple Library. Any excess interest shall be added to the principal of the Fund.
Lieberman Teacher/Adult Enrichment Fund: Established in 1992 with a gift of $5,000 from Dr. H. Lieberman, the interest from this fund is to be used at the Rabbi’s discretion towards scholarships for religious School Faculty to attend conferences, seminars, etc. The proceeds may also be used for adult Jewish education.
Zaransky Speaker Fund: Established in September 1991 with a gift of $5,000 from Stephen Zaransky in honor of his parents, Florence and Herman, interest from this fund is to be used to bring notable teachers and lecturers to Beth Israel – The West Temple.
